3 weddings and a ... bit of sabrage!

3 weddings and a ... bit of sabrage!

What a week it has been since we got back from a break in Dubai.

Your Toastmasters, Nikki & Jonathan have had meetings with three couples planning their weddings for 2013.

Two are to be held in the summer at Whitstable Castle and one in the winter at St Augustine’s Westgate.

Nikki a Maitre Sabreur will be teaching sabrage to them all – an event that is becoming ever popular both at weddings and social events.

Nikki is a member of the Confrerie du Sabre d’Or a unique body of people that understand the true history of sabrage and its place in celebrating special occasions.

Professional Toastmasters at Whitstable Castle Wedding Fair.

As usual the sun shone on Whitstable Castle for their bi-annual Wedding Fair.
Your Toastmasters were meeting and greeting the prospective brides and grooms from all over Kent.
The Castle is such a perfect venue for a wedding and there are so many professional suppliers available to make the day special.
Your Toastmasters sabre was on show and created much interest especially when Nikki explained that as a Maitre Sabreur she can teach sabrage to those interested in opening champagne in a unique manor.
Indeed Dominic at the Castle was very interested in a future function involving sabrage!
It was a lovely day amongst like minded colleagues and we look forward to visiting one of Kent’s special venues again very soon.

Kent Wedding Toastmasters and Sabrage at St Augustine’s Wedding Fayre.

Kent Wedding Toastmasters and Sabrage at St Augustine’s Wedding Fayre.
On the 30th September Jonathan & Nikki Your Toastmasters spent a very enjoyable Sunday at St Augustine’s Wedding Fayre.
It is always a pleasure to be at such a wonderful venue that gives brides and grooms so many possibilities for their special day.  The professional staff are so very helpful and well worth speaking to for advice and ideas.
Kent Wedding Toastmaster, Jonathan, welcomed brides, grooms and families to the fair and Nikki, Kent’s Professional Lady Toastmaster directed them around the extensive venue ensuring all guests saw the suppliers on show.

Many brides and grooms loved the scarlet uniforms and the pleasant manner of us both.
We thoroughly enjoyed the day and ended it by Nikki, a Maitre Sabreur, teaching Nicola, a St Augustine’s employee, how to sabrage a bottle of champagne to celebrate her forthcoming wedding.  Angela from The Ace of Hearts Video was on hand with her digital camera to capture the moment.

Special Care Baby Unit Charity Night at the Pavilion Broadstairs

Special Care Baby Unit Charity Night at the Pavilion Broadstairs

It was a humbling experience to be invited to become auctioneers at the Pavilion Broadstairs on Friday 28th September.  After all we only had to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit by urging generous guests to bid on the wonderful donated gifts.

Nikki, Kent based Lady Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies acted as the auctioneer for this charity event and did a very professional job on the night that also coincided with the Octoberfest Beer Night!

Although it was challenging it was not in the same league as the cycle team lead by Jason Short who travelled 800 miles from John O’Groats to Broadstairs Kent during a week of terrible storms and wind.

As well as the auction and raffle guests were also entertained by the Jeff Barker Band and Surf Dude Grandad.

Your Toastmasters and Event Coordinators were proud to be part of this magnificent charity night.

Well done everyone who has helped to raise nearly £17,000 for this very worthwhile cause.

A first in Northen Ireland - The new Mr & Mrs McClelland sabrage a bottle of champagne

Northern Ireland is God’s own country and the perfect setting for a wedding.

On Saturday 8th September Your Toastmasters attended such an event at Portrush on the northern coast.

As guests began to arrive at Ballywilliam Presbyterian Church so did the aircraft that were displaying at the air show taking place the same weekend.  There is always something special about  the Red Arrows performing in the sky on your special day.

Before the wedding breakfast Nikki a Maitre Sabreur oversaw the groom sabrage (open champagne with style using a sabre) a bottle of champagne in front of his new bride and all the guests; and they all loved the spectacle.  Nikki was proud to introduce sabrage on behalf of the Confrerie du Sabre d’Or to the people of Ulster and looks forward to many more such occasions.

Kent wedding toastmasters head up North.

Your Toastmasters Nikki & Jonathan attended a wonderful intimate wedding high up on the Alston Moor in Cumbria.

The bride and groom had planned a very special day for their guests the highlight of which was a reception held on a steam train that saw canapés eaten and champagne flowing throughout the whole journey.
A very intimate wedding for a very special couple.

The wedding breakfast held at the Alston House Hotel was a delight and Nikki a Maitre Sabreur even found time to perform sabrage (opening champagne with style by using a sabre) in the grounds of the hotel.

The bride and groom had the day of their dreams and are looking forward to spending their lives in a beautiful corner of England.

A very colourful wedding at Addington Palace

On Saturday 18th August, the hottest day of the summer, wedding toastmasters, Jonathan and Nikki Curran, had the pleasure of officiating at the wedding of Steven and Emma Arinze at Addington Palace.

The glorious period building looked resplendent in the clear blue skies as did the guests, especially the visitors from Nigeria who lit up the event with their fantastically colourful dress. The Winter Garden and Great Hall were beautifully decorated and each table was finished with candelabra and crystals.  The exquisite 5 tier wedding cake at the end of the Great Hall took pride of place.

Emma Cassey and her team from the Palace worked very hard preparing and serving refreshments and food which was befitting for the occasion.

With evening drawing in and the temperature still in the 30’s outside Nikki (a Maitre Sabreur for the Confrerie du Sabre d’Or) oversaw Steven perform  sabrage (opening champagne with a sabre) alongside his new wife Emma.  Both families were delighted by the spectacle.

As the dancing began everyone appeared in colourful Nigerian clothing which had been given out as gifts by the groom’s mother.

What a hot, hot wedding day for everyone!!

The whole day was recorded for posterity by Ditch GreenPhotography and Anneka Ireland Videography – we are really looking forward to seeing the results.

Your Toastmasters and Event Coordinators put on a splendid evening for everyone.  With plenty to eat and drink in a venue dressed in red, white and blue the atmosphere began to build as Danny Boyle’s opening ceremony approached.

With the Red Arrows leaving for their 2012 fly past and then returning to join the party everything was in place for a great night.

We even had our own medal presentation as the winners of the team quiz tasted success by wearing gold around their necks.  Team GB will get gold as well over the next two weeks but we were first at TG Aviation!

Wedding spectacular for the new Mr and Mrs Campbell.

Wedding spectacular for the new Mr and Mrs Campbell.

What a triumph for Patrick and Paras on their wedding day.

The sun shone at St Peters Church to welcome all the guests from Ireland, Iran, Scotland and America.  Jonathan Cruickshank performed another memorable ceremony for the bride and groom.  Wedding Toastmasters, Jonathan and Nikki were present to ensure all ran smoothly for both sides of the family.

The wedding breakfast was held at the Courtstairs and it was beautifully decorated throughout in white and silver with the centre piece an exquisite 5 tier wedding cake with cupcakes to the sides.

Event Coordinators In South East show off Margate to Essex Photographers!

Prospective vintage photo shoot!

On Sunday 22nd July Nikki & Jon had their event coordinator hats on and welcomed two Essex photographers (David Court & David Islip) to Margate.
As members of the Master Photographers Association (MPA for London & Essex) they were looking for prospective venues and locations for a photographic shoot.

They were impressed with the opportunities the area offers and visiting the Walpole Bay Hotel was one of the highlights.  Well that and having their photographs taken with the red arrows at TG Aviation.

Hopefully more members will visit later in the year!

The First Wedding at the Turner Contemporary

The First Wedding at the Turner Contemporary

The most amazing wedding took place at the Turner Contemporary on Saturday 21st July.

The bride & groom were married in the Clore Learning Studio in front of 90 guests who were mostly from the London area on their first visit to Thanet.

Your Wedding Toastmasters ensured they were welcomed and made to feel at home.

After the ceremony the bride and groom went for a short drive and on their return were entertained by an aerobatic display organised by Your Toastmasters & Event Coordinators.

The plane from Manston looked magnificent in the clear blue sky over Margate harbour.

The staff at the Turner Contemporary were excellent throughout the day and the meal was well received by all.

Your Wedding Toastmasters worked tirelessly to ensure the wedding ran smoothly on behalf of Emily & Mike and we were delighted that the day was such a success.

Groom’s practise sabrage for their day!

Groom’s set to impress on their wedding days!

Sabrage is becoming ever more popular and Nikki a Maitre Sabreur is more than happy to teach the skills required to open champagne with a sabre.

Two grooms at forthcoming weddings in July at the Courtstairs and Turner Contemporary have been taught and intronised at their homes so that on the day they can impress their family and guests.

Nikki is a proud member of the Confrerie du Sabre d’Or and is the only toastmaster in East Kent able to offer this unique service.

Bridal Way Ramsgate – the little shop with the big reputation

Yesterday we, Nikki & Jonathan from Your Toastmasters and Event Coordinators, dropped in to see Keeley Harrison at Bridal Way in Ramsgate.

What a wonderful outlet for brides to visit.

Inviting and comfortable surroundings make trying on the gowns such a pleasure.

Keeley has vast experience and is well worth contacting for all your bridal needs.

We enjoyed our time with her and are sure you will too.

Sabrage – where sword meets bottle - The Lansdowne Club London hosts a champagne evening

Sabrage – where sword meets bottle - The LansdowneClub London hosts a champagne evening

The opulent surroundings of The Lansdowne Club, off Berkeley Square in London, hosted a champagne evening with a difference for over 90 expectant guests.
The event was organised by David Court (courtoncamera) member of the Lansdowne Club and fellow Maitre Sabreur for the Confrerie du Sabre d'Or.

The art of sabrage – the opening of champagne with a sabre, is becoming more and more popular since its inception in France in 1815.

Now nearly 200 years later Nikki, Your Toastmaster and Maitre Sabreur, was part of a team of experts, from the Confrerie du Sabre d'Or, who love champagne spent the evening teaching others the noble art first begun by dashing French cavalry officers during the time of the Battle of Waterloo.

Nikki resplendent in her green cape and holding her flashing blade spent 3 hours instructing the guests on how to remove the cork and annulus with a single stroke.

The evening was a roaring success with over 90 bottles of champagne drunk.

With sabrage now available in many 5 star hotels these evenings will become more and more popular.  Nikki can’t wait to perform again.

Jonathan & Nikki Kent Toastmasters are more than just wedding toastmasters!

Jonathan & Nikki Kent Toastmasters are more than just wedding toastmasters!

The wonderful thing about being toastmasters and event coordinators is that you meet so many lovely people and get involved in organising occasions that are so enjoyable and worthwhile – let us explain how our last 2 weeks have panned out.

Here in Margate, in East Kent, the Turner Contemporary is already becoming as iconic art gallery and cultural centre but it is also a great wedding venue.

Jonathan & Nikki from Your Toastmasters Kent have the honour of officiating the first wedding at the Turner Contemporary on behalf of a lovely couple from London.

It is going to be very special and both the bride and groom and all their guests will have a memorable day on the coast in wonderful surroundings.

Talking of London, Your Toastmasters, who are more than wedding toastmasters, went to Catford to teach sabrage to a couple getting married in August.  Nikki a Maitre Sabreur for the Confrerie du Sabre d’Or used her skills to ensure the groom can open the champagne with panache on the day!

Sabrage is becoming extremely popular and Nikki is one of the few qualified Maitre Sabreurs in Kent and the South East of England who belongs to the Confrerie du Sabre d’Or and proudly upholds all the traditions that the Confrerie encourages.  Many clients are seeking her services for weddings, corporate events and private parties.

Closer to home, T.G. Aviation Manston and Thanet Flying Club hosted a Fun Fly and BBQ night and Your Toastmasters used their event coordinator skills to cater, run the bar and dress the venue.  Photographer David Court attended the event with his green screen technology – this is where photographs are taken in front of a green screen and a chosen backdrop can be added.  Images were sold on the night and raised money for the John Egging Trust.  We are sure you will agree the photographs are very different!   The event was a great success despite the inclement weather and wild wind grounding the planes for the duration.  However, one plane did get airborne and put on an amazing practice display of aerobatics.  The clubhouse at T.G. Aviation at Manston in East Kent is a wonderful venue and Your Toastmasters really enjoy working there.  Nikki & Jonathan will be celebrating the opening of the Olympics with Mark, Sue and their guests at their next event.

Kent based wedding toastmasters go the extra mile to ensure YOUR day is special.

Kent based wedding toastmasters go the extra mile to ensure YOUR day is special.

Last Wednesday evening Your Toastmasters, Kent based wedding toastmasters and masters of ceremonies, visited a couple who are having their ceremony at St. Peter’s Church followed by their wedding breakfast at Courtstairs, Pegwell.

Lots of planning had already been done but there were still some suppliers needed for their special day.

Nikki, a Wedding Lady Toastmaster, has made many contacts throughout East Kent, and was able to suggest some suppliers, musician Paul ‘One Love’ Messenger to play during the afternoons canapé and champagne and Leon from First Dance to help choreograph something special for the couple’s first dance.  Mark from Courtstairs was also contacted and he has kindly allowed access to the venue the day before so as the venue can be styled.

Choosing Your Toastmasters not only makes YOUR actual day special, we can also support and advise throughout the planning process months beforehand.

We are delighted to be the wedding toastmasters for such a lovely vibrant couple.

Wedding fair 17th November 2012 in support of SANDS ‘Why 17?’ campaign

Although November seems a long way in the future for Josephine Pollen from ISP Photography it will come all too soon.

She is organising a charity event at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Broadstairs, Thanet in support of SANDS charity.

Many local wedding suppliers have been invited to participate and as wedding toastmasters we at Your Toastmasters have been asked to attend as well as being MC’s for the fashion show.

It is always rewarding to be recognised by others in the wedding industry.  East Kent has many excellent businesses to support brides and grooms on their special day.

So why not make a note of the date Saturday 17th November 2012 from 10am – 5pm it would be great to see you there.

From a past pupil to future bride!

From a past pupil to future bride!

Being a wedding toastmaster is such a rewarding job.  An example of this is when we met a former pupil at the Royal in Ramsgate to discuss plans for her future wedding at St Luke’s Church in Ramsgate and the North Foreland Golf Club.

The need to contact suppliers as early as possible is so important.  Although the wedding is in March 2013 it has still been challenging for the bride to source everything she desires to make her dream wedding possible.  Fortunately Your Toastmasters were available on this particular date and we are looking forward to the whole day.

As wedding toastmasters and masters of ceremonies we recommend that all brides book their preferred suppliers as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

After a very successful wedding on Saturday it was time to change events and attend the wedding extravaganza at the Pavilion in Broadstairs on Sunday 27th May 2012.

The Wish List team based in Thanet began preparing for the event from 8.00 in the morning for an 11am start at the Pavilion.

To conclude the event for the Wish List Sally from Flowersby SP sabraged her first bottle of champagne. Both Jonathan & Nikki, Sabreur members of the Confrerie du Sabre d’Or were very impressed at how expertly Sally performed this ancient art of opening champagne.

Your Toastmasters and The Wedding Wish List thank Laura for organising the event on behalf of the Pavilion and Thorley Taverns.

As it was such a beautiful evening what better way to spend it than going over to the Anchor at Wingham to listen to Paul ‘One Love’Messenger.  A talented performer who always connects with his audience and as usual the whole pub was rocking.  Despite numerous encores it all ended too soon.  Here’s to the next time.

The sun shines on Leanne and James at St Peters Church and Quex Park.

St Peters Church in Thanet is a classic English Church in the Garden of England and on the 26th May 2012 Your Toastmasters had the good fortune to be there for the wedding of Leanne and James.

The bridal party were transported in at 1962 split screen VW campervan by Classics for Occasions, whilst the bride arrived in a classic white Bentley.

Their service was conducted by Jonathan Cruickshank, a charming man, who made everyone welcome.  Following the service the wedding party travelled over to Quex ParkBirchington, for the reception and as usual the venue and staff were on top form.

After the excellent speeches the groom performed sabrage in the gardens and was presented with a certificate from Nikki Curran, female toastmaster and a Maitre Sabreur for the Confrerie du Sabre d’Or.
Nikki & Jonathan, Your Toastmasters received many very kind words from the happy couple, guests and staff.

It’s so rewarding to be part of a wedding and help make it special for all concerned.

Thanet Flying Club Fun Fly 20th May 2012 at T.G.Aviation.

Your Toastmasters had their Event Coordinator hats on at T.G.Aviation Manston, on Saturday 20th May 2012.  This was to assist with the organisation and running of the first Fun Fly Event of the season for Thanet Flying Club based at T.G. Aviation.

On a pleasant early summers afternoon intrepid aviators arrived for a flight briefing and to collect their ‘flour bombs’ for the traditional test of skill and daring. Throughout the flying spectators were kept informed about the ‘bombers’ by Bill and his fantastic commentary.  Those on the ground were also treated to several spectacular aerial displays which included Sue & Les in their fantastic flying machines.

2 wedding fairs and a bit of sabrage!

Since our return from holiday in mid May things have been really busy for Your Toastmasters, Thanet’s only husband and wife team of toastmasters and masters of ceremonies.

On Monday 14th May Your Toastmasters along with the other Wish List wedding professionals met at Cuts Inc in preparation for the Wedding Showcase at the Pavilion Broadstairs on Sunday 27th May.  All is going well and the team are looking forward to working together to promote quality weddings in Thanet, East Kent and the South of England over the months to come.

Wednesday the 16th took Your Toastmasters &Event Coordinators to an evening wedding fair the Fayreness in Botany Bay, Thanet.  This wedding venue by the sea is now run by Shepherd Neame and is clearly promoting an exciting opportunity for brides & groom to enjoy a special day with wonderful views and open spaces for everyone to enjoy.  The wedding fair was well attended and the organisers Mikala and Karen from Estrella Events were well organised and a pleasure to work with.  It was a very pleasant atmosphere on a lovely spring evening on the Kent Coast.  Your Toastmasters are looking forward to attending the next one in September.

On the same evening Thanet’s Lady Toastmaster even found time to visit a bride and groom in Broadstairs to teach the groom sabrage (the art of opening champagne with a sabre) prior to their big day at St PetersChurch and Quex Park.

A busy weekend for Your Toastmasters in London, Dover and Broadstairs

Kent Toastmasters and Masters of Ceremonies enjoyed a weekend of meeting like minded people.

On Friday the 20th April, Your Toastmasters had the honour of attending a grand ball at the Mandarin Oriental in London.  This event was organised by the Confrerie du Sabre d’Or and a number of guests including Nikki Curran were intronised as Maitre Sabreurs.  This now means that Kent has a Lady Toastmaster who can teach others the noble art of opening champagne with a sabre.  This is not only great fun but is perfect for a wedding when a bride or groom wish to impress their friends or family.

Nikki & Jonathan who are both members of the Confrerie du Sabre d'Or had a great evening and met many lovely like minded people including fellow Maitre Sabreur David Court and Jullian White the UK Ambassador.

The memorable evening was recorded photographically by Scott Collier

On Sunday the weather ignored the forecast and the sun shone all day on the wonderful venue of Solton Manor near Dover.  This manor house is a perfect setting for weddings.  Your Toastmasters and Masters of Ceremonies met many prospective brides and grooms as the wedding fayre held in the converted Dutch Barn.  East Kent has many quality venues and this is no exception – it is well worth a visit.  The fayre had many wedding suppliers from the local area and it was a pleasure to spend the day in their company.

On Monday Your Toastmasters met with the Wish List  wedding professionals to discuss the wedding show that is to take place at the Pavilion Broadstairs on Sunday 27th May – more meeting will follow to ensure this will be a quality event.
