The opulent surroundings of The Lansdowne Club, off Berkeley
Square in London, hosted a champagne evening with a difference for over 90
expectant guests.
The event was organised by
David Court (courtoncamera) member of the Lansdowne Club and fellow Maitre Sabreur for the Confrerie du Sabre d'Or.
The art of sabrage – the opening of champagne with a sabre,
is becoming more and more popular since its inception in France in 1815.
Now nearly 200 years later Nikki, Your Toastmaster and
Maitre Sabreur, was part of a team of experts, from the Confrerie du Sabre d'Or, who love champagne spent the
evening teaching others the noble art first begun by dashing French cavalry
officers during the time of the Battle of Waterloo.
Nikki resplendent in her green cape and holding her flashing
blade spent 3 hours instructing the guests on how to remove the cork and
annulus with a single stroke.
The evening was a roaring success with over 90 bottles of
champagne drunk.
With sabrage now available in many 5 star hotels these
evenings will become more and more popular.
Nikki can’t wait to perform again.
